Nintendo has announced that the 100 millionth Nintendo DS system has been shipped to shops as of March 2009.
Nintendo says the combined total sales of 100 million Nintendo DSes, Nintendo DS Lites and Nintendo DSis "represent a significant milestone" in the life of the handheld gaming franchise.
The original Nintendo DS launched in early 2005 in Europe and Nintendo's latest model - the DSi - is due to debut here on 3 April.
As an interesting comparison, the main competitor to the Nintendo DS, Sony's PlayStation Portable, has managed just half those figures.
Sony revealed that it had hit the 50 million shipped figure for PSPs as of January 2009. The PSP launched in Japan in late 2004 and in Europe in September 2005.
