Dell Latitude E6400 XFR launches

Next-gen rugged laptop

Dell has announced the launch of the Latitude E6400 XFR, the company's next generation fully rugged platform.

Engineered to meet the needs the military, field workers and the like, it meets 13 military specifications including drop tests, sea fog, temperature extremes, thermal shock and explosive environments, among others.

The new XFR model gets Dell's "Ballistic Armor Protection System" that features a material called PR481 which is used in military applications, cryogenics, aircraft, etc and boasts twice the impact strength of magnesium alloy.

There's also "PrimoSeal" tech that protects from from dust and liquid with "compression gaskets" and a "QuadCool" thermal management system for extremes of temperature.

The laptop offers a 14.1-inch impact resistant screen that's sunlight viewable and 12-cell fast charge batteries.

Specs-wise, there's Intel Centrino 2 with vPro technology, an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M 256MB DDR2 graphics card, Wi-Fi, up to 8GB RAM and optional Bluetooth and GPS.

At 2.2-inches thick and starting at 8.5 pounds, the Latitude E6400 XFR is a beast - but apparently 15% thinner and up to 5% lighter than the previous generation XFR.

The Dell Latitude E6400 XFR is available now from £2679 plus VAT.
