Rockstar Games announces Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

1 March 2004 17:57 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Following on the back of five BAFTA game awards for Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar Games, the series' publisher, has announced the next instalment to keep gamers at bay. This time, it's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Available exclusively for the PlayStation2 it is expected to be in stores in North America on October 19, 2004 and in Europe on October 22, 2004.

The fact that Rockstar has announced this as an exclusive for the PlayStation2 in the run up to Christmas will be a big blow to Microsoft's Xbox and this isn't the first news of PS2 exclusive titles this year. It will be a testing time if Rockstar manage to keep to the announced published date.

Over 30 million units of the Grand Theft Auto franchise have been shipped to date, including over 11.5 million units of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and over 10.5 million units of the original - Grand Theft Auto 3.
