Google's Climate Savers Computing Initiative has started a new campaign under the "Power Down for the Planet" header that is to encourage consumers to turn their PCs off when not in use.

To get the message out, there's a video contest on the topic: "a challenge to you and your friends to develop original and creative videos that educate, entertain, and inform others about the importance of energy efficient computing".

The team with the most compelling video can win up to $5000 and energy efficient laptops, while students at participating universities are also eligible to win $5000 and Specialized Globe bicycles.
