SanDisk to offer 32GB microSDHC card

Leak shows higher capacity incoming

5 March 2009 16:47 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

SanDisk will launch a 32GB microSDHC card this year, Pocket-lint has learnt.

The news means media fans will be able to store twice as much as with SanDisk's current offerings.

microSD is roadmapped up to 32GB, so this will be the last update for the standard before consumers are asked to adopt the "SD eXtended Capacity" cards that will go up to a whopping 2TB of storage.

Apparently tested by a forum member - who got to see a prototype in August last year - the card is said to be due in the first half of this year.

SanDisk launched its 16GB microSDHC memory card in September last year for around £45.

As well as in phones, microSDHC cards are also used in video cameras, GPS receivers, MP3 players and the like.

Thanks to L.Rawlins for the tip and we will keep you posted.

  • I've been waiting to get my hands on one of these 32GB cards since I found out my Blackberry will support them - so when will I be able to buy one? Posted by Joe, England
  • Sometime in the Summer Joe. Details are vague, as they were with the 16's right up until launch.

Pocket-linters: It would be a nice gesture if you made a habit of crediting 'the tipster'. I don't think it's too much to ask when you want your community to stay actively involved in content delivery. I tipped the launch of that 16 gigger you've referenced aswell!

  • Sorry L.Rawlins, that was my oversight and you're quite right. It is Pocket-lint policy to credit and it's something I overlooked on a busy day. Many thanks for the tip, as well as your regular comments, and please keep them coming! Posted by elliott, United Kingdom
  • That's cool. It's just nice to see your personal endeavours recognised by outlets that you respect and purposefully pour your own time into. Posted by L.Rawlins, UK
