TomTom has revealed the details of its embedded navigation solution co-developed with Renault, called "Carminat".

The Carminat TomTom, due to "open up" the embedded navigation to the "mass market", according to the GPS company, will launch with a 490 euro price tag (£439) in Renault's small to medium cars.

The Carminat TomTom can be fully updated with the latest map changes and other content via its SD card slot and TomTom's free desktop software HOME that includes MapShare, the map-tweaking feature.

The Carminat will offer a 5.8-inch screen and a built-in RDS-TMC traffic receiver.

It will be available from spring across Western Europe, initially launching in the new Renault Clio, but will soon be in the new Renault Megane and Scenic.

In related news, TomTom has also announced that it will supply Toyota with the second generation of TomTom's semi-embedded portable navigation solution in select vehicles. The in-dash TNS410 model will be available throughout Europe in Q4 2009.
