As well as refreshing its consumer desktop line-up, Apple has introduced new Mac Pros using Intel "Nehalem" Xeon processors.

Claiming to deliver up to twice the performance of the previous generation system, the new Mac Pro starts at £1899.

Highlights for that £1899 option include a 2.66GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processor, 3GB memory, 640GB hard drive, 18x double-layer SuperDrive and NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB graphics.

The 8-Core £2499 model offers two 2.26GHz Nehalem processors and 6GB memory.

Apple says an updated interior gives easy access to all components within the Mac Pro for "hassle free" expansion and there are built-to-order options available too.

The new Mac Pro will be available next week.
