Garmin announces nuvi 1200 and 1300 series

Slimline with some pedestrian navigation functionality

Garmin has announced eight new models in the nuvi 1200 and nuvi 1300 series, described as navigators with an "ultra-thin" design for use in and out of the car.

The new series gets the option of "CityXplorer" maps with public transit mode, available for download for certain tourist destinations in North America and Europe from $10.

All the new models get text to speech, while higher end options offer free lifetime traffic alerts and lane assist.

The 1200 and 1300 series also offer Garmin's "ecoRoute", which suggests "fuel-efficient" navigation with a "less fuel" option, and fuel and mileage reports.

All models in the nuvi 1300 series get a 4.3-inch touchscreen display with the nuvi 1370T and 1390T getting Bluetooth hands-free connectivity.

The nuvi 1200 series offers a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, with the 1260T adding Bluetooth hands-free connectivity.

With pricing given in US dollars, and ranging from $199 to $449, Garmin says all models are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2009.
