Apple has finally updated its small form factor PC, the Mac mini, with its biggest refresh since summer 2007.

Although little has changed looks-wise, the new mini PC is now available in two options with up-to-date specifications, including a five times improvement on graphic performance and improved connectivity.

The cheaper model, at £499, offers a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 120GB hard drive, 1GB memory, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics and an 8x double-layer SuperDrive.

The higher end £649 option differs with a 320GB hard drive and 2GB memory.

The Mac mini offers five USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 800 and with dual display support can drive two Apple or third-party displays with Mini DisplayPort or DVI connections.

Apple is angling the new Mac mini as "the most energy efficient desktop in the world", claiming it uses less than 13 watts of power at idle, up to 10 times less power than a typical desktop PC.

  • For the cost of the new Mac Mini's. I would consider purchasing an older model along with an external hard drive. Posted by NM, United Kingdom
