Skype users get SpinVox option

First VoIP deal for voice-to-text service

3 March 2009 12:27 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

SpinVox and Skype have announced the availability of voicemail to text conversion for all Skype voicemail users today.

SpinVox converts voice messages to text in English, Spanish, French and German. The messages are then sent by Skype as an SMS text to a designated mobile phone for users to read.

Skype users can also choose to get voicemail notification via SMS or for free by email and can still listen to the original voicemail by signing into Skype.

Each voicemail to text conversion will cost £0.17, $0.25 or 0.20 euros plus the cost of sending an SMS at Skype rates with additional SMS charges – a maximum of 3 - depending on the length of the voicemail message.
