Lenovo ThinkPads meet "semi-rugged" specs

Eight models okayed to military grades

Lenovo ThinkPads meet

Although Lenovo is perhaps not looking to steal Panasonic's crown for tough notebooks, the company has announced that some of its ThinkPads meet military specs for "semi-rugged" computing.

The X200, X200s, X200 Tablet, X301, T400, T500, R400 and SL300 ThinkPad models have ticked all the boxes "for use in field and vehicle semi-ruggedised computing environments such as in public safety, utilities, construction and the military".

This means they are certified to operate at low pressure, at high humidity, can be used at certain vibration levels to withstand shocks, can take up to 140 degree heat and -4 cold and will "blow dust" for an extended amount of time.

The newly certified laptops are available now with the ThinkPad SL300 from £741.81.
