The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle Earth II is heading for an Xbox360 near you this summer, the games publisher EA announced this week.

Based on the PC version of the same name due out in March, The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle Earth II for the Xbox360 will bring players into the heart of Middle Earth but with the benefit of next generation graphics albeit 3 months later.

Gamers will be able to directly control hundreds of units in an attempt to defeat enemy armies, conquer new lands, and seal the fate of Middle Earth.

Voiced by Hugo Weaving, who plays Lord Elrond in the movie trilogy, gamers will also be able to challenge friends online and battle it out via the Xbox LIVE service.

The game will feature exclusive new multiplayer games including King of the Hill, Capture and Hold, and Hero versus Hero.
