O2 has revealed that sales of the iPhone in the UK have only just hit the one million mark after 16 months of being available to UK consumers. The number, which pales in comparison to Nokia's N95 handset that in 2007 sold 1 million handsets in 7 months, was revealed as part of a wider release looking at highlights from the company's latest financial quarter.
The official operator in the UK for Apple's mobile states: "We can also announce that as of today more than 1 million iPhones have been sold in the UK".
This million mark relates to both the first generation iPhone and the iPhone 3G, a model that is available on a pay as you go basis as well as contract.
Apple launched its original iPhone in the UK in November 2007, and its 3G version in July 2008.
As of January 2009, Apple had sold over 10 million iPhone 3Gs worldwide. Phones, iPhone, O2, Apple, Statistics
