O2 announces 20 years of voicemail

Leaving messages since 1989

O2 has announced its 20 year anniversary for offering voicemail on its network.

O2 says that voicemail is one of its most popular services since its launch in 1989 - although back then it surely would have been one of the only services.

O2 says that its business customers rate voicemail as the most important service for them, while consumers rank it second behind text messaging.

O2 has revealed that over 11 million O2 customers have voicemail, with one in five calls to an O2 customer diverted to voicemail and that more than 2 million voicemail messages are left every day.
