Cost-cutting measures implemented

Vodafone has announced that 500 jobs are to go in cost-cutting measures.

Despite reporting positive financial results in its last earnings report, the company will let staff go as part of previously-announced plans for £1 billion's worth of cost cuts.

"Vodafone UK has today announced reductions to its operating costs in order for it to compete more effectively in the UK market", the company said.

"As customers look for best value in their mobile services, Vodafone intends to reduce its cost base whilst continuing to invest in new products and services to meet changing customer needs".

All the group's operations will be affected, with 170 people at Vodafone's head office in Newbury, Berkshire to be made redundant.
