Samsung officially launches TL320

The mystery of the Samsung compact with the OLED screen as leaked by Amazon has been solved as the company officially announces the launch of the TL320.

A 12-megapixel compact, with a 24mm ultra-wide angle Schneider lens and 5x optical zoom, it's claimed to be the world's first digi-cam to feature a 3-inch AMOLED screen with HVGA resolution.

The 460,000-dot HVGA AMOLED screen consumes less power than an ordinary LCD and offers a higher contrast ratio of 10,000:1 as well as daylight visibility and wider viewing angles.

The TL320 also offers face detection, blink detection, smile shot, and beauty shot technologies. The TL320 can record high-definition video at 720p in H.264 and gets HDMI connectivity through the use of a cradle.

Other specs include optical and digital image stabilisation, aperture priority, shutter priority and full manual shooting as well as Samsung's "Advanced Picture" mode for colour temperature adjustments in addition to smart auto mode for easy shooting.

With a brushed stainless steel finish it seems the analogue dials on the top are more for "retro" looks than any serious photography functionality - they only give an approximate readout of remaining battery life and memory capacity.

Available in black or silver, the TL320 will be available in the States in May for $379.99.
