Huawei shows its first Android phone

MWC 2009: OEM offering due Q3 2009

18 February 2009 16:08 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Huawei has showcased its first Android-powered smartphone at Mobile World Congress, following the news we brought you late last year that the company was prepping such a device for launch.

Due to be sold to mobile phone operators so they can brand their name to the device, the phone will be commercially available in the third quarter of 2009.

Huawei says it has partnered with an established design consultancy to develop a "robust and user-friendly interface, creating a powerful customer experience that is able to evolve with operators' differentiation requirements".

James Chen, director of Huawei terminal marketing department said:

"A pioneer in mobile broadband devices, we look forward to expanding a compelling mobile communications experience for end-users whilst providing customized services to our operator partners via the Android smartphone".
