Western Digital has introduced its newly redesigned My Book World Edition network storage drive.

Claiming to simplify the task of backing up an entire household's files, WD says it's designed for consumers who have multiple computers on a home network.

Compatible with both PCs and Macs, the new drive will be available in 1 terabyte and 2 terabyte capacities.

The My Book World Edition drive plugs into a network router and, at the "click a few buttons", backs up the files from all the PCs and Macs on the network.

Any changes to the files on these computers are automatically and continuously backed up to the drive.

Users can also securely access and share their files from anywhere in the world where they have access to the Internet, using the My Book World Edition drive's web remote access service.

The new drives are available now in the 1TB capacity for £168.99 and expected later this month in the 2TB capacity for £369.99.
