ITV considering Friends Reunited sale

Would Facebook buy it?

16 February 2009 12:57 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

ITV is considering selling Friends Reunited, a site it bought in 2005 for a deal worth £175 million overall, it's being reported.

Although once popular, Friends Reunited has struggled to achieve the high visitor numbers it enjoyed around the time ITV bought the site, despite relaunches and scrapping on subscription fees.

The Financial Times, quoting analysts, has suggested that Facebook or MySpace could be interested in buying the online property.

The sale is expected to be announced as part of ITV's annual company results report next month, although ITV has not confirmed the proposed sale.
