Twitter users brave snow for Twestival

Twitter users braved the snow and cold in London to celebrate the second Twestival meet up in the capital city on Thursday.

Around 700 fans of the micro-blogging service pledged support in Shoreditch, East London. Elsewhere, Twestival meet-ups in over 175 cities around the globe reportedly experienced similar successful turnouts, as Twitter users met with other users face-to-face, mostly for the first time.

"We've had around 600-700 people turn up tonight which is fantastic", one of the co-founders of the event told Pocket-lint. "It's a lot more than we had in September".

Tom Malcolm (@tommalcolm), who told us he hadn't had much sleep in the run up to the event, also confirmed that the event wasn't going to be the last.

"We are going to sit down after tonight and recover, but it's clear there will be more Twestivals to come later in the year", confirmed Malcolm.

Other Twitter users who braved the British weather told us that apart from the long queues to get in they'd had a great time meeting new people and enjoying the party atmosphere.

"What's great is that there are people here from all walks of life", one Twitter user told us. "From Microsoft to Timesonline, to average Twitterers to big names in the Twittersphere, they are all here".

The organisers where hoping to raise $1 million for the charity: water, a non-profit organisation that brings clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations by funding sustainable clean water solutions, as well as allowing people to put a face to a name.
