Sega announces new Alien vs. Predator game
Puts other Aliens games on hold to accommodate it
11 February 2009 18:08 GMT / By Verity Burns
Sega has today announced that an all new Aliens vs. Predator game is in development, with a release date of early 2010.It also confirmed that independent studio Rebellion, the creators of the original Aliens versus Predator game released in 1999, will be taking the reins of this instalment as well.
In anticipation of what Sega promises will be a "landmark game", the company has decided to "strategically" adjust the release dates of other previously-announced Aliens titles to accommodate it.
This means anyone looking forward to the already-delayed Aliens: Colonial Marines game, or the currently unnamed Aliens RPG being developed by Obsidian, will now have to wait until after the 2010 release of AvP before they'll see them.
"The innovative new AvP game presents an exciting opportunity for us", said CEO of Sega West, Naoya Tsurumi.
"It represents a fantastic addition to our growing Aliens franchise and the reinvention of one of gaming's most cherished iconic titles. By adjusting the release of our other Aliens titles to accommodate it, Sega will ensure that every title lives up to the high expectations of Aliens and AvP fans".
Let's hope it's worth the wait. Sega has promised it will announce further details of the game "very soon".
