Xbox multiplayer free for GTA IV DLC launch

11 February 2009 12:27 GMT / By Verity Burns

Microsoft has announced it will temporarily lift the restrictions on the Xbox Live multiplayer service, to allow anyone playing GTA IV or its first expansion pack, to play online for free.

The multiplayer service is usually restricted to paying Gold members, but to promote the release of the first Xbox-exclusive GTA IV DLC episode, The Lost and Damned, everyone will be able to play GTA IV and its DLC free online between 17 - 22 February.

As well as this, Rockstar Games and Xbox Live are also hosting a week of events, which includes the chance to challenge hip hop DJ and producer, DJ Statik Selektah in the "Game with Fame" event, as well as play against "the people behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise" in a Game with Rockstar multiplayer event.

The Lost and Damned GTA IV DLC will be available to download through Xbox Live from 17 February, and will cost 1600 Microsoft Points (around £13.60).
