UK retailer confirms new Acer smartphone is legit

UK retailer Clove has confirmed to Pocket-lint that the Acer smartphone, the DX900, is legit.

Talking to the MD of the company, Chris Love told Pocket-lint that the new handset, which will be officially unveiled at Mobile World Congress is just the "first of many" expected to be landing on our shores in the coming months.

Acer, who has officially confirmed it is to launch at least one smartphone at the Mobile World Congress event in Spain in February, hasn't yet confirmed the new handset, however that hasn't stopped Love suggesting why.

"Maybe some parts of Acer don't talk to other parts. We have a very good relationship with the company and they've given us the go ahead to put it on the site".

"We aren't sure when the phone will be available but we've been told to expect a late February launch".

The Acer DX900 is a dual-SIM and dual standby Windows Mobile handset supporting HSDPA and EDGE. In addition it offers GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity, a high-resolution VGA display, and a 3-megapixel auto-focus camera.

CNet noticed that it is in fact exactly the same as the E-Ten Glofiish DX900, a "pocket PC" made by a company Acer recently acquired.

"Acer will be changing the branding from E-Ten to Acer", Love, who seemed to know a lot about the company's plans, confirmed to us.

Acer's press office is staying quiet for the time being. Pocket-lint is attending the MWC event and will bring you more nearer the time.
