Dell announces Twitter exclusives

3 February 2009 17:48 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

In a post entitled "Twerrific news" (we're not joking) Bob Pearson, Dell's vice president for comms and "conversations" (still not joking) has revealed the company is to give its Twitter followers exclusive discounts.

The post states: "Beginning today, Dell will offer deals from the Dell Outlet exclusive to Twitter in the US. With over 11,000 followers, our team wanted to show their thanks to the Twitter world through these new deals which will continue each week".

Dell runs over 80 "Twitter properties", obviously taking the micro-blogging platform seriously as a marketing tool. Bob ended his post with: "We want to thank the Twitterers of the world for their support".

This week Asus announced the American availability of a new Eee netbook, the 1000HE, via its Eee Facebook group page rather than through more traditional media outlets.

  • "We want to thank the Twitterers of the world for their support".
As long as you are in America. Obviously because Bob, as a typical Amercian, thinks the world is America.
This kind of attitude stops me buying Dell.

  • Adrian, thanks for your note. We are very focused on Twitter worldwide. It just happens that our first exclusive was in the U.S. In my post on www.direct2dell.com, I do mention that our team at Dell now has over 80 twitter properties, including new Dell Outlet-focused ones in the UK and Ireland. For those interested in offers on new systems, we support sites in Australia and New Zealand. And, we are getting started in Japan and China, so more to come there as well. Our sites can be found at www.dell.com/twitter.
Sorry if my mention of the "world" was taken the wrong way. Didn't mean it that way and there will certainly be more updates from the UK in the near future. All the best, Bob

  • The UK and Ireland Dell Outlets are thrilled with its growing number of Twitter followers. Stay tuned for more from the UK and Ireland. Posted by Stephen Jio, Ireland
  • It is noted that you are providing an "exclusiove to Twitter in the USA" and I see from the comment above that you are supporting sites in New Zealand and Australia. What happened to your neighbour "Canada" ? Posted by Ken Barton, Canada
