Sketchy details are coming in on the $20 laptop that has been unveiled in India, a launch from government, academic, and commercial interests.
The Linux-based "Sakshat" laptop boasts 2GB expandable memory, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and low power consumption of 2 watts.
The officials behind the launch are reported to be promising it will be available at the $10 price point 6 months after it goes into mass production.
Indian sceptics are reportedly questioning the news of the seemingly miraculously low-cost laptop, with the announcement coming ahead of elections.
The OLPC's attempt to create a low-cost laptop for children in developing nations eventually came out at $188 per unit, despite the aim of $100 price tag.
