• For me the real high-tech phone race is the power and “Toshiba TG01 mobile phone” is the first one to cross the line of 1 GHz processor speed. The phone is a 4.1-inch full touch screen (the largest display in the history of mobile phones), a Qualcomm snapdragon 1GHz chipset, Windows Mobile 6.1, etc. We will probably see the Toshiba TG01 at MWC 2009 and learn more about it. • This is so daft. The iPhone is gorgeous ... as are some of the Symbian phone and yes ... Android has potential .... but for those that need power apps ... there is only one platform (no matter how inherently weak from the OS perspective) that has the support of developers. Iphone and Symbian apps are typically pretty toy town except in some genres ...
  Windows Mobile has near desktop equivalents on the market for just about everything - Resco Explorer, Photo Viewer, Illium Newsbreak, Inesoft Cash Organiser, Softmaker Office ... the list goes on.
  Yes ... the base WM platform isn't that friendly and the included apps are dire ... but when it comes down to it ... if you want a pretty toy ... go for an iPhone and love it ... if you NEED a real work horse covering a number of app requirements, there is only one platform for the foreseeable future and that is WM ... • I've used the I-Phone 3G & WM phones. But at last I still prefer WM. Same reason as Paul, I need a stong work partner.

• iPhone is not the "best" at everything it does. It is weaker in some areas where other phones aren't.

• Here is what the iPhone does NOT do that this phone will do without breaking a sweat:
  1 - replaceable battery
  2 - Bluetooth Stereo - a must!! I walk into a room and play music over the stereo controlled and played on the phone - WHILE I am watching any video format (and this phone is sure to play higher bit rate than any other phone - hands down.
  3 - unlimited selection of interfaces and key applications - most free at this point xda-developers!!
  4 - No waiting for MS or Apple to release fixes - see #3
  5 - Multiple phone company shared resources - see #4 and #3
  6 FLASH! Working just fine thank you
  
  This phone is what everyone who does not use a hardware keyboard has been waiting for, we can only hope Toshiba gets phone company subsides and the price is somewhat reasonable - that could be its downfall in mass market, but all MS lovers will be in heaven.   Until it has TomTom, Garmin, Mapking all running in it. Googlemap is useless especially in overseas travel. Just TomTom alone is not enough. I have all three in my winmo device, as in some country, only Mapking will have good enough maps.
  
  Until it has the ability to create, edit, and view MS office compatible documents using SoftMakers.
  
  I can live with the rest such as inability to cut and paste, weaknes in bluetooth, etc. But the above are non-compromisable. Posted by ABC, Australia

• Toshiba has yet to set the price for the TG01, furthermore the price will probably be set by the operators based on contract options and how keen they are to sell it.

• As a tentative iphone user, the key is the app store they have. I dont really care so much for the feature sets of the phone (no cut n paste, no video, no zoom on camera etc). The high stickiness of the iphone apps (itunes, store etc) combined with the speed at which people build apps for the phone make it too formidable to beat. MS has the best shot to sink in years of investment into making a store of their own and make it easy to port to... Posted by Amit, US
• My opinion is, presently NO OTHER (touchscreen) mobile/smart phone is really ABLE TO MESS with the Apple's iPhone 3G regarding design, "look & feel" and quality of manufacture and last but not least "its hidden technical possibilities" (e.g. gaming with its motion sensor and utilities like VNC-client via WIFI etc.). • Does this thing has a front camera for Video Conferencing? Rico Buddy, you are right, doesn't matter what others offer using Windows Plateform but nothing is in match with Apply products and that is what all of us know. Windows has always been target for Virus, not MAC :), so hang out guys let others use this TG01. I saying after 6 months of its launch we will find whats hidden inside. • Rico, You realize that this phone too, has the Accelerometer which is the exact same way as the I-phone 3G is capable of producing such good gaming apps??? This phone also has the WI-FI you speak so highly of with that damn IPhone. You must own one, and like many other conceited pricks I know that have them, and think everyone should worship them. Truth is they, you, spent way to damn much money for the fad instead of waiting the rest of the world to make better products. Now you are to stubborn to admit you got taken, or just took it up the *$$, so are afraid to admit something may be better!!! Well, this is better than the IPhone. It is faster, you can have more versatile memory, replaceable battery, and all of the other features the IPhone has and more. It is true the IPhone has more apps right now, but it has been out longer, so others will catch up. Attention all IPhone suckers, get ready for something better!!! • Growler, I admit to agree with you and I have already realized the (present) minor and major problems regarding the non-versatile memory, "jailed by iTunes" and the battery replacement, which is connected with highly extraordinary exaggerative cost-intensive service charge and giving off the cell/iPhone for a some time. I hesitated a long time buying the iPhone, because of above mentioned "deficiencies". And there's no doubt other cell brands could have the same or more advanced technical (hardware) abilities respectively capabilities.
  BUT those supposed to be "more sophisticated techi cells" (better speed, more memory, higher display resolution, etc.) "are of no avail", if following major (image and sales supporting) factors are not right: "The Look & Feel" and quality of manufacture. If you keep the iPhone in your right or left hand it lets you operate it "easily" with the "very sensitive" touchscreen made by glass. I'm also owner of a Samsung Omnia smart phone with OS WM 6.2 prof. and 16GB memory etc., it is technically (hardware) quite good, but mostly you have to do more pressure on the touchscreen with your fingertip and a "dint become unveiled" as well as the user-unfriendly part of WM regarding setting configurations (but new release is available). That's sad but I can live with it, also with the minor problems of the iPhone. Other popular cell brands, have the same "heavy/major deficiencies" like Samsung's Omnia. Concerning China's "iPhone-replicant" Meizu M8 ... c'mon buddy... your statements here are almost against Apple's iPhone (it's OK)...but you favor an iPhone-replicant... isn't conflictive? • Rico... we all know that the i(diot)Phone has a great touch screen. But do you know why it is so great? ie/ what the difference is between it and most winmo devices? The iPhone has a Capacitive touch screen.
  
  A capacitive touchscreen exhibits a continuous flow of electrons across the surface. When an object that has capacitance, like a person's finger, touches the screen, the capacitive field is distorted. The phone tracks the distortion and assigns coordinates to the touch. This is why you can't use a pen tip (or any other non-finger object) with the iPhone - a pen tip doesn't have capacitance.
  
  Most winmo devices have resistive touch screens. Resistive screens work by, well, resistance. If you press on the screen, you're causing two electrically-charged layers to meet at a certain point. The device can then track the coordinates of the touch by where this contact occurred. Resistive touchscreens are cheaper to produce than capacitive, though offer lower visual clarity and are often times less sensitive.
  
  However... there are two major reasons why winmo devices mostly have resistive screens and not capacitive. The first is obviously cost but the second is not so obvious. Many users, especially in Asia, still like using the handwriting-recognition and note taking abilities of Windows Mobile. Using a capacitive screen of the iPhone variety would make it very difficult, if not impossible, to take notes on the screen with a stylus. You'd have to design a different sort of capacitive touchscreen that would respond to a metal stylus that exhibits capacitance, and not just a finger. No one has done this yet.
  
  So there you have it. Also... Apple have now shot themselves in the foot by having their patent granted for the IPhone hardware. What this patent means is that if they develop their hardware AT ALL... the patent will not be valid for their new development. All they can do is develop their software, and to be perfectly honest... the lack of simple features from the get go on IPhone such as copy and paste is not a good sign for their customers.
  
  The Windows Mobile community is far far more advanced then Apples app store no matter what marketing spiel you may believe. There is far far more you can do with windows mobile then what is achievable with any iPhone (jailbroken or not).

• Jason, no doubt WM can do a lot or more, but iPhone OS too. "It is only a matter of what they (all mobile phone OS programmers) have to / are willing to do finally" or their given possibilities from "above" (marketing department). Look, maybe you're right, iPhone (still) have not the "simple" feature "copy and paste". But allow me to say the whole world of mobile phone producing companies trying to reach Apple's iPhone (let me say) "high popularity", because it has benchmarked in "simplicity and convenience" regarding the GUI (look & feel incl. so called "multitouch" - very beneficial if using a browser). If I hold my Samsung Omnia I900 (with WM OS and resistive TS) in my left hand and the iPhone in the other hand and compare them. Neutrally and honestly as a "consumer" and regardless of their brand name my private favor belongs to the iPhone, because of it's high quality appearance and manufacture and the high acceptance of its simple and convenient GUI (very positive look & feel). Well, both cost a lot of money regardless of their hardware technology (resistive or capacitive touchscreen, speed, memory etc.). Sorry, but I am not sure, whether you are able to speak for "all" people, who live in Asia or elsewhere. But fact is, the popularity of the iPhone is "significantly and omnipotent" in Asia and elsewhere ... it is growing, the more people some how can afford it. Apparently It is a "struggle" like within the game console sector between SONY's Playstation and. MS XBOX. Presently PS has more acceptance than MSX. • I just sold one on eBay for around £400.
  
  System reaction is very fast; Slim body, big different between WM 6 and the older version (I mean the speed, but it may be the 1G CPU)

• I have just ordered one from orange it is 12 month contract 32 pounds a month and phone cost is 97 pounds (total of 485 pounds in a year). You also get 600 mins and 300 text. I think it is a good deal.
  I have trust in toshiba after I have used their PCs for last 8 years with out any trouble. Also Toshiba G900 I bought 2-3 years ago was the most advanced phone 1-2 years ahead of any other manufacturers and woked quite well for that time.
  I am certain That TOSH hardware is better than Iphone and many other manufacturers only thing is stupid MS needs to catch up as it was always the case. Posted by Kashif, UK
• I agree Kashif , TOSHIBAs hardware really good at working , laptop ,tv , and now TG01 .
  Maybe WM6 not good as people like but with others , WM system is cool at manager power , app , ..... strong for working .
  Iphone or something like that maybe effect good , game , soudn .... but for fun only.
  
  TG01 has it own powerful body, chip speed , monitor, ram ...... the OS on it , just a time problem . WM 6,5 , and WM8 will come later , or maybe but i really believe that Toshiba will make their own OS .
