Asus has announced the launch of its latest netbook via its official Eee PC Facebook group.

Shunning the more traditional public relations outlets and going with the power of social networking, the company has revealed the news of the availability of the 1000HE to its 1898 members.

The Facebook page states: "GOOD NEWS! The Eee PC 1000HE will be available soon! Pre-order yours today and save $25 INSTANTLY!! All you have to do is join our Official Eee PC Facebook Group, go to our 1000HE promotion event page, invite your friends and enjoy the savings! *Exclusive for FACEBOOK group members!"

The 10-inch 1000HE runs on Intel's Atom processor, offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 160GB hard disk and the boast of an impressive 9.5 hours battery life.

In the States the new netbook will cost $399 - with that $25 off for its Facebook "friends", of course.
