Cineworld is to offer 144 cinema screens capable of showing 3D movies in the UK, the chain has announced.

Thanks to agreements with NEC, for the digital projectors, and RealD, for the 3D bits and bobs, the multi-million pound update is planned for completion by April 2009.

This will make Cineworld the biggest 3D cinema chain in the UK, ready for the 13 3D movies due to launch this year.

These include Walt Disney's "Bolt" and "Toy Story 3D", DreamWorks' "Monsters Vs Aliens" and James Cameron's "Avatar".

Steve Wiener, CEO of the company says: "The timing of this deal enables us to take full advantage of the busy 3D film slate this year and I am pleased that Cineworld will be able to provide this latest technological advance to more of its customers".
