Google delays $10 million charity project finalists annoucement

"Sheer number" of ideas sees judging pushed back 2 months

Google has announced that the judging of finalists for its Project 10^100 charity scheme has been delayed.

The project, pronounced 10 to the 100th, is offering $10 million to turn the best five ideas about ways to improve people's lives into reality.

Google was due to reveal finalists on 27 January for public voting, but has now delayed this until 17 March.

In a blog post, Google says: "Because of the sheer number of ideas we received, we were unable to compile the list of finalists in time for our January 27 target and will have to push back that announcement to March 17 (St. Patrick's Day)".

"We apologize for the delay and encourage you to return to the site on that date to vote for your favorite ideas. Perhaps the luck of the Irish will be with you and yours, or a similar idea will be a finalist!"

Google received 150,000 ideas in 25 languages that need to be whittled down to 100 finalists.
