Sony denies PlayStation phone branding

Over fears of poor user experience

16 January 2009 17:28 GMT / By Verity Burns

Although Sony Ericsson has used Sony brands such as Walkman, Cyber-shot and Bravia badges on its phones, Sony has reportedly refused to grant it permission to use PlayStation branding on its handsets.

Apparently Sony Ericsson had made a series of pitches for the branding, but Sony eventually rejected it in December amidst worries that the phone maker wouldn't be able to guarantee a good enough user experience.

There is always the chance, and there have been a few rumours that would support this, that Sony held back on the branding to produce a PlayStation or PSP phone of its own.

Only time will tell if this turns out to be true, but we'll be keeping our ear to the ground for the latest updates.
