2GB card to expand Wii storage

Sandisk launching Rock Band 2-branded SD card

SanDisk has announced a Rock Band 2-branded SD gaming card, designed to help Nintendo Wii gamers expand the storage capacity of their console.

While gamers wait for a better solution from Nintendo themselves, gamers can only save content such as downloaded games and songs onto an SD card due to no internal hard drive, bar a measly 512MB.

"We are launching the SanDisk Rock Band 2 SD card to enhance the playing experience on the Wii", said Christopher Moore, director of product marketing, consumer products division, SanDisk.

"Video games like Rock Band 2 frequently offer downloadable extras, and gamers need to have an affordable and convenient means of storing this bonus content. The SanDisk 2GB Rock Band 2 SD gaming card meets that demand".

Of course, the SD card can still be used in other devices such as a camera, and then easily transferred onto Wii's photography channel.

As Rock Band 2 is currently only available on Xbox 360 here, and has not seen a Wii release like it has in the States, it's unknown as to whether we can expect to see a release of the Rock Band 2 SD memory card over here.

Don't worry though, it's really just a regular SD card with the Rock Band 2 logo on the front of it. Really. That's all.

Still, the SanDisk 2GB Rock Band 2 SD gaming card is expected to be available for US retailers this spring, and will carry a price tag of $12.99.
