Reports say "security loopholes" let hackers control Home servers

UK newspaper The Telegraph has reported that Sony's PS3 virtual world Home has been hacked.

There is apparently a "security loophole" that developers have uncovered to allow them to upload files to, download files from, or even delete files from the Home server.

This of course means it is possible that hackers would be able to spread viruses through the social network, or force it offline.

Some possibilities are the ability to download things such as player's avatars to their computer, change the text and music of the virtual world, or even use the in-game screens to stream their own video files.

This is apparently possible for hackers using the Apache web server and DNS redirection. Whatever that means.

Home's open beta began last week, meaning that all PS3 users could try it out. There's no news yet as to when the complete version will be released.
