EA has abandoned plans to build a new development studio in Vancouver.

A spokesman for EA has told Canada's Globe and Mail that slow seasonal sales in both North America and Europe, along with concerns about the state of the world's economy at the moment, has led to the plans being dropped.

The studio was set to be a 20,000 square foot facility in Yaletown, adding to EA's already sizeable Vancouver operation including Black Box and EA Canada studios. Big games series Need for Speed and FIFA are produced in the city.

"These are challenging times, they're uncertain times for our industry and across the board", said spokesman Colin Macrae. "We continue to be firmly rooted in Vancouver".
