In a welcome bit of news amidst all the stories of closures and job losses, retail chain Gamestation is set to open its 250th store this Friday in Meadowhall, Sheffield.

The company is set to host an opening party on Thursday night for partners, publishers and the press, as well as offering prizes for the first 50 customers coming through the doors on Friday morning.

"Meadowhall is the perfect location for our 250th store due to its huge footfall and catchment area", said managing director Martyn Gibbs.

"This opening really is a landmark for us and proves that Gamestation continues to be the UK’s fastest growing games retailer – a success we plan to drive forward into 2009".

GAME acquired the Gamestation chain last year for £74 million, and it seems like it is continuing to go from strength to strength.
