Street Fighter IV coming "this winter" for consoles

But still may not be this year

Anyone anticipating the release of Capcom's latest addition to the Street Fighter series, the publisher has released a few details as to when we can expect it.

Capcom has said that Street Fighter IV will be released "this winter", and that Europe can expect the game at "roughly the same time". But before you go rushing to your Christmas lists to write it down, Capcom has been quick to say that doesn't guarantee we'll see it this year.

Yoshi Ono, producer of the game, said: "We don't want to start rumours that it's this year, but definitely this winter.

"At some point you'll be sitting in your winter coat looking at snow out the window…and right then we'll kind of heat you up a little with some hot Street Fighter action, so look forward to that."

How picturesque. In August, the director of the Street Fighter film, The Legend of Chun-Li let slip that the game was to be released in line with the movie, although this was never confirmed by Capcom. It sounds like it could be about right though, with the film's release date being February 27th, 2009.

Street Fighter IV, which is to be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 and is set to go back to the game's roots and feature 2D fighting with a 3D art style.

We'll get you the actual dates as soon as we get them.
