Sony is rumoured to be launching a massive 82 inch LCD TV in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The model will compete with directly against Samsung who launched the same size large screen television at CeBIT in Hanover Germany at the beginning of the year.

Although little facts are known about the exact specification of the expected model, if it is anything like the Samsung model then we can expect a 1920 x 1080 widescreen display capable of producing 1080i images at 60 frames per second.

Sony isn't the only one gunning after the large screen market. At IFA 2005 in Berlin Sharp launched a 65 inch LCD model, that was priced at £14,000, however Sharp's president Katshiko Machida told Pocket-lint in a press conference at the show said:

“In my mind anything over 50 inches for the home is a waste”.

Pocket-lint.co.uk will be attending CES at the beginning of January and will bring you all the news as it happens.

We will keep you posted.
