A few weeks back, Bungie had us on the edge of our seats awaiting information on its new project.

Now, following several clues and a teaser trailer which suggested we could expect something from the Halo franchise, we finally have a few more solid details about what will be the Halo 3 singleplayer expansion.

Announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2008 earlier today, the game has been named Halo 3: Recon, and it will serve as a prequel to the events in Halo 3.

Players will take on the role of a UNSC recon soldier - an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST) to be exact - apparently the "fiercest" of UNSC soldiers, and the first unit deployed in hostile situations.

While not as large or supernaturally gifted as their Spartan comrades, Microsoft says these soldiers - known as "Hell Jumpers" - more than compensate for this with their "ferocious attitudes and unwavering nerve".

Dubbed as having a "new hero" for a "new campaign", the game is expected in Autumn 2009, although there's been no confirmation on if this will be a simultaneous release across all territories or not.

Expect screenshots and more information to follow over the coming months, and check out the video trailer we managed to get our hands on too.
