Sony Online Entertainment is considering the PSP a "viable platform" for fully-fledged MMO games, according to SOE boss John Smedley.

He said: "I think PSP is something that we're definitely looking at; 34 million worldwide really opens your eyes, and they're all connected."

He also said that the company, which is behind popular MMOs like Everquest and Star Wars Galaxies, had started looking at the PSP when it merged with Sony Computer Entertainment earlier this year.

"As we've kind of got our heads up looking around the world within Sony Computer Entertainment, we're really starting to see a big push for PSP. We think it's a world-class device; In the future, we see full MMOs that are designed for the PSP."

However, before we see SOE MMOs on PSP, we can expect extensions elsewhere first. The company's forthcoming MMO Free Realms, and The Agency will be available on PS3 sometime next year.
