Sony says PSP hard drive storage "increasingly likely"

Sony boss teases at E3

Sony has been talking about the possibility of hard drive storage for future revisions of the PSP handheld console.

"I think we definitely thought about it," said SCEA CEO Jack Tretton at an E3 round table interview. "I think that's the trend moving forward."

Sony Europe boss David Reeves last year said something similar last year.

With the launch of the PS3 video store and of Go!View, digital distribution of movie content is now firmly part of Sony's PS3 and PSP plans. Perhaps this is why Tretton teased that a PSP featuring internal storage was "increasingly likely".

Now it just remains to be seen whether Sony will opt for a cheap and spacey hard disks or efficient, expensive solid-state drives.
