Konami announces Rock Revolution in production

Complete with drum and guitar peripherals

As Electronic Arts gears up for the release of Rock Band on 23 May, Konami has revealed that it is also planning its own music game, that will come complete with guitar peripheral and "realistic" drum kit.

The game will be called Rock Revolution, which considering Konami's other titles of Karaoke Revolution and Dance Dance Revolution, must've taken them a while to think up.

Rock Revolution will be released across Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and DS, although the versions will differ slightly and not everyone will get their hands on the funky peripherals.

XBox 360 and PS3 owners will be the lucky ones, who get the full peripheral experience. Features of the game will include a virtual music studio like in Guitar Hero IV, a jam mode, online and offline versus, co-op and band battles.

The Wii version, on the other hand, appears not to come with any peripherals. You'll use the motion-sensing controllers to air-guitar and air-drum instead. Not quite as impressive, but probably less expensive.

On these three consoles, it seems there will be 40 tracks to begin with, although rather annoyingly, they will all be covers. Downloadable content will expand over time to make more songs available, but they'll be covers too. Let's hope they're good'uns.

Finally, those with a DS will have to go peripheral-less as well, using the stylus to replicate the guitar, drum and bass in "rhythm matching". Konami say there will be a vocal option, however details of this are still unclear at this stage.

No details yet as to exact pricing or release date, but we'll keep you updated.
