Nokia ships 1 million 5800 XpressMusics

23 January 2009 14:35 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Nokia has announced that it has shipped the millionth Nokia 5800 XpressMusic device, a milestone that coincides rather nicely with the device's debut in the UK.

Nokia's first mass market touchscreen device, the 5800 XpressMusic launched in other territories before it saw a UK release, including Hong Kong and Moscow where Nokia says it sold out "within hours".

"The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has been received very positively and this milestone is just further proof that people all over the world want a device that is not only a great music experience, but also makes the most of touchscreen technology", said Jo Harlow, vice president, Nokia.

Earlier today 150 queued outside Nokia's flagship Regent Street store to buy the phone, some since midnight.
