Latest search figures from Ask Jeeves implies that this year's must have gadget is a digital camera rather than an iPod, PSP or Xbox360.

The term is the biggest within the gadgets category, with Apple's iconic iPod range off the top spot. Laptops take up the number three spot while the Sony PlayStation, and desktop PCs take the forth and fifth places.

The latest search trends from Ask Jeeves show we are a nation of tech trendsetters, with gadgets taking the lead overall as the modern gift giver's preferred yuletide offering, followed closely by lingerie, kids' toys, jewellery and clothing.

When it comes to lingerie, the second most popular gift category, Ask Jeeves has revealed us to be a nation of secret, saucy lingerie lovers this Christmas with Ann Summers leading in pole position. The search trends also reveal that boutique brand Agent Provocateur trails closely behind followed by Bravissimo, Love Kylie, and finally Gossard.

“In our increasingly tech savvy society, it is hardly surprising that gadgets have come out on top, although it is interesting that the iPod is no longer number one” says Rachel Johnson, VP of Marketing for Europe at Ask Jeeves. “A surprising trend is that lingerie is currently so popular, even more so than fashion”.
