Google offers transit layer in Maps

See the real Tube layout on a London map

15 January 2009 10:20 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Google has launched a new transit layer on Google Maps in more than 50 cities around the world.

The London layer shows the Tube superimposed across London, but as it's map-based, and tied to real geographical locations, it looks a lot different to Harry Beck's colourful diagram.

What this layer might mean though, is that non-Londoners might find this visualisation of interest, in order to see how close certain stops are in real life and save timely Tube hopping.

To switch on the layer go to the "more" button on the London map and select the "transit" tab.
