Sony launches Cyber-shot DSC-G3

Sony has introduced the world's first Wi-Fi-enabled digital camera that uploads photos and videos to web sites through any public hotspot due to its built-in web browser.

Sony says the new Cyber-shot DSC-G3 can connect to any free or paid-for public hotspot, "including hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and airports".

In the States, the new DSC-G3 will come with complimentary AT&T Wi-Fi access to Sony's Easy Upload Home Page until 31 January, 2012.

With a "WLAN" button right on the camera, users can press to open its embedded web browser with the Sony Easy Upload Home Page, including direct links to photo sharing sites like Photobucket, Shutterfly and Picasa as well as YouTube and Dailymotion.

The 10-megapixel camera has a 4x optical zoom Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, 4GB of internal memory, a 3.5-inch LCD screen, supports DLNA, and has all of Sony's usual smile shuttering, face recognising, image stabilising, scene selecting gubbins thrown in.

The Cyber-shot DSC-G3 camera is now available in black for about $500 in the States with not a whisper of a European launch.
