HP has introduced the Compaq CQ2000 desktop PC, an "affordable" offering for the New Year.

Promising "elegant style, energy efficiency and affordability", HP is angling the new computer as a "cool-looking addition to the homes of Internet-centric consumers, young professionals and families".

Energy Star 5-compliant, the CQ2000 has a compact design at around a third of the size of a traditional desktop PC and boasts an Intel Atom 230 processor, 1GB memory and 160GB hard drive.

HP is bundling the PC with a Compaq W201q wide flat-panel 20.1-inch monitor, with HP BrightView Technology and integrated active speakers.

The Compaq CQ2000 desktop PC will be available as of 9 February for £229.00 or £329.00 with the monitor.
