For those who enjoy the more active lifestyle, two new additions have been made to the µ Tough series from Olympus, which was rebranded from the SW range in December. With trademark features that live up to the series' name, both cameras are waterproof, shockproof and freezeproof, with the µ Tough-8000 being the most extreme out of the two, being waterproof to depths of 10m, shockproof to drops of 2m and freezeproof to temperatures as low as -10°C.
That's not to say the µ Tough-6000 isn't still impressive though - on top of its freezeproof attributes, it is waterproof to 3m and can resist falls of 1.5 metres.
Specwise, the µ Tough-8000 and µ Tough-6000 feature 12- and 10- megapixels respectively, as well as a 2.7-inch screen and 3.6x wide zoom lens spanning a focal length spectrum of 20-102mm.
Other features include Dual Image Stabilisation, face detection, different shooting modes and Tap Control, that allows the camera to be operated by taps on the casing.
The µ Tough-8000 will be on the shelves by mid-January in a choice of Platinum Silver, Midnight Black and Steel Blue, while the µ Tough-6000 will be available from early-February in Lemon Yellow, Pure White, Arctic Blue or Sunset Orange. No prices have been confirmed as yet.
