Sony has finally entered the netbook arena with the launch of the much hyped and leaked Vaio P-series.

The new model will cost $900, weight just under 1kg (640g) and feature the usual array of Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth but interestingly GPS connectivity.

The 8-inch (1600 x 768) 8-inch X-Black LCD screen with power efficient LED netbook will be available in red, emerald green, onyx black, white and classic black.

The unit also has an instant-mode option that launches directly into Sony's Xross Media Bar interface, so you can rapidly boot up and access music, video, photos and the Web. A built-in webcam lets you video chat with family, friends and colleagues. A third-party service is required.

The Vaio range will be available in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia from February 2009.

An exclusive model is also available online for pre-order from Sony Style Store. It has a 1.6GHz CPU and a Solid State Drive instead of a conventional hard drive, giving you 128GB of super-fast flash memory with the added advantages of enhanced reliability and faster access to data.
