Apple launches iWork into the cloud

As was reported was likely to happen, Apple has launched some of its software into the cloud.
At the Apple keynote at Macworld Expo 2009 in San Francisco Philip W. Schiller senior vice president of worldwide product marketing for Apple has announced that iWork.com would be launching in beta.
A browser-based offering, the new online solution from Apple will be a rival to Google and its Docs offering, especially considering that the online nature of the software will mean that Apple solutions will be available to PC users.
iWork.com will offer online sharing capabilites for Keynote, Apple's presentation software, Pages, its word processing solution, and Numbers, its spreadsheet application.
"We are going to find out together", said Schiller of the beta offering. Apple will eventually charge for the service (Google Docs is free), but at this stage it will be free with interested customers signing up to get involved.
