An eight-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu in India has become the youngest person to pass the Microsoft Certified Professional examination.

M Lavinashree, who's said to have passed with "flying colours", has now broken the previous youngest record for a pass set by Arfa Karim, a ten-year-old Pakistani girl.

Lavinashree, described as a prodigy and credited with a photographic memory, had more problems getting onto the software programme than she did with the exam.

"When we went to them, the guys first refused saying she was too young. They took her only after she proved that she could", said Lavanya, Lavinashree's sister.

Lavinashree is now studying for the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer qualification.
