Blu-ray DVD hybrid disk unveiled

A Japanese company has managed to create a Blu-ray DVD hybrid disk giving home cinema fans the chance to play a movie either in standard or high definition formats from the same disk.

The move, which will see "Code Blue emergency helicopter Blu-ray BOX" be the first title out in Japan could mean the format would be more appealing to households who've still got DVD players in the house as the disc could be played in any machine.

The exciting bit is that the company has managed to put both technologies on the same side rather than having to require you to flip the disk to get the relevant format.

There is no word as to when this new technology is going to hit UK shores.

We will keep you posted.
